Here you will find a collection of PC Finale .MUS notation files and accompanying Type I MIDI files.

All Finale files are "notes only" unless accompanied by (NAD) which means "notes, articulation and dynamics".
Moreover, some scores and parts are beginning to appear in the archive of the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP). If this abbreviation accompanies a work in the list below, then you know that the pdf files are available in one form or another at that site.

I hereby declare all of the Finale files and MIDI files of music on this page by composers who died before 1923 to be in the public domain. They may be downloaded, copied without restriction and used for profit or non-profit purposes. There are about a half dozen compositions and arrangements which were donated with thanks by their creators. Though because of the public nature of this page those files have a de facto public domain status, if you wish to use them for profit I would recommend that you contact the person who donated them.

My instrument is clarinet, as you can see, but the music files offered here contain chamber music which may include parts for Oboe, Flute, Bassoon, French Horn, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello and other instruments. Other interesting music links are given at the end of this Web page.


The files immediately below and preceding the .MUS and MIDI files are text files. They are indices of the holdings of the University of California Libraries in the form of music scores. Each index below represents the holdings on one instrument. Music scores only -- no videos or CDs in these lists. The French Horn file is less than 100 KBytes, but all the others, except the flute file, are around 1 Mbyte. The flute file is 3.8 MBytes.

The following three music notation files are in Finale 3.7 format. They are "looks right files," as opposed to "sounds right files," in that all trills and drum rolls are compressed in standard musical notation. The conductor's score and extracted parts can be derived from these files.
